The corporate electric transition in Europe is no longer a distant target or a boardroom hypothetical. A sweeping survey of 1,700 fleet managers, published by DKV Mobility in March 2026, reveals a sharp demand signal that is reshaping the continent's roads. More than half of all European companies now plan to expand their battery-electric vehicle fleets within the next twenty-four months.

This shift is driven by operational pragmatism rather than simple environmental altruism. Nine out of ten businesses already operating electric vehicles have installed their own on-site charging infrastructure to bypass the patchy public network. By taking direct control of their energy supply, managers in hubs like Germany and France are insulating themselves from external volatility.

The Netherlands currently leads the pack, boasting the highest share of battery-electric vehicles among the eight markets surveyed. While Central and Eastern European markets move with more caution, the intent to adopt is rising across the board. High acquisition costs and fluctuating electricity prices remain hurdles, yet they are increasingly viewed as obstacles to be managed rather than deal-breakers.

Timing is everything in this transition. The European Commission’s proposed Clean Corporate Vehicles Regulation looms on the horizon, threatening mandatory zero-emission quotas by 2030. Since corporate buyers account for roughly 60 percent of new vehicle sales in the EU, these procurement decisions carry immense weight.

The market appears to be sprinting ahead of the regulatory curve. Companies are locking in total cost of ownership advantages now, building private ecosystems that make the combustion engine look like a legacy liability. As 2026 unfolds, Europe’s commercial mobility market is hitting a genuine inflection point where the electric fleet is becoming the standard, not the exception.
